New DeepEdge coating extends spectral range for OPAL lenses to 380 nm
Schneider-Kreuznach introduces the DeepEdge broadband coating. It extends the spectral range of OPAL lenses down to 380 nm. It is suitable for 405 nm lasers, with higher transmission and improved contrast.
DeepEdge broadband coating on OPAL lens
Bad Kreuznach, 17 November 2025. The DeepEdge broadband coating is the refined anti-reflection coating from Schneider-Kreuznach. It extends the usable spectral range of lenses down to 380 nm. The new coating is now applied as standard to OPAL series lenses.
Technical specification. Focus on the deep blue range
At the core of the innovation is the extension of the usable spectral range. The DeepEdge broadband coating is optimized for a wide range from 380 nm to 1000 nm.
Benefits for demanding applications
The development is a response to increasing requirements in industrial imaging.
Optimized for deep blue light and lasers
- The DeepEdge broadband coating is suitable for applications using specific short-wavelength light sources. With the edge shifted down to 380 nm, it supports 405 nm lasers and LEDs without difficulty. This covers the typical illumination bandwidth and coating tolerances. The improved performance at 380 nm ensures higher resolution and image contrast where conventional coatings reach their limits.
Improved measurement accuracy
- Customers who rely on precise color information in the near-UV and deep blue spectrum benefit from the increased transmission and the consistent optical quality of the lenses.
Higher light throughput and contrast
- The new coating increases transmission. This results in a measurable rise in overall light throughput across all lens surfaces. The higher transmission also reduces stray light, which improves image contrast.
