Schneider-Kreuznach Lens Accessories UNIFOC

What is a UNIFOC?

The UNIFOCs are separate focusing units specifically designed for the use with Schneider-Kreuznach lenses without own focusing function in combination with area and line scan cameras. This combination allows the imaging of large, but also of very small objects with an extraordinary high image quality. Many machine vision applications require the imaging of small objects from distances of only a few centimeters. Together with lens, extension tubes and a camera adapter, the UNIFOCs form a compact lens system perfectly tailored to such applications.

Several of our lenses do not have a focusing mechanism. When using such a lens, the focusing must be done using a helical focusing mount called UNIFOC. The helical mounts UNIFOC 7 and UNIFOC 12 with V38 interface allow a displacement of 7 or 12 mm. The UNIFOC 7 is alternatively also available with M58x0.75 thread on the camera side. The UNIFOC 25 with 25mm displacement has a Leica thread Ø39 x 26 Gg. 60° on the lens side and either a M42x0.75 (T2) or a M58x0.75 thread on the camera side. The UNIFOC 5 adapts lenses with V38 interface specifically to C-Mount cameras and the UNIFOC 22 is the right choice for mounting lenses with V48 interface on a wide range of industrial cameras. All products in the Unifoc series can be secured with a locking screw.

UNIFOC models Explained: Differences, Use Cases, and Benefits

UNIFOC 5

The UNIFOC 5 was developed as a very compact focusing mount to allow the PYRITE 40mm to 50mm lenses to be focused to infinity on a c-mount camera. UNIFOC 12 and UNIFOC 7 cannot be used for such an application due to their length.

Advantages:

  • Very compact design
  • Comparatively low costs
  • Stable
  •  Allows the PYRITE 40mm to 50mm to be used even at long working distances
  • The Allen screw look prevents accidental adjustment

UNIFOC 7

The UNIFOC 7 was developed as a less costly alternative to the UNIFOC 12. Focusing is no longer done via a double helical focusing mechanism but via a single thread. Since the UNIFOC 7 was often used with a V38/M58x0.75 adapter, a variant with an M58x0.75 thread was added.

Advantages:

  • Very compact design
  • Comparatively lower in costs than UNIFOC 25
  • Stable
  • Very suitable for large sensors, especially in M58x0.75 version
  • V38 mount allows azimuth alignment
  • The Allen screw look prevents accidental adjustment.

UNIFOC 12

More than 25 years ago, the system with a V38 interface, then known as the "macro system", was developed for image processing. It should be more compact than the UNIFOC 25 and optimized for industrial applications. The lenses, nowadays known as PYRITE, were given a metal body and a lockable aperture without detent. The UNIFOC 12 is significantly more compact than the UNIFOC 25 and has a linear movement and a stroke scale.

Advantages:

  • Very compact design
  • Linear movement
  • Stroke scale of 12mm
  • V38 mount allows azimuth alignment
  • No tools required to fix the setting
  • The helical mount simplifies focusing when frequent focus changes are required

UNIFOC 22

The UNIFOC 22 was designed as a mechanical focusing mount for lenses without integrated focusing capabilities. It is particularly well suited for use with the ZIRCONIA series, which was intentionally developed without built-in focusing mechanisms — both to reduce system costs and to allow for greater flexibility in integration. The UNIFOC 22 provides precise, adjustable focus and supports applications where external focusing is required or preferred.

Advantages:

  • Enables focusing and azimuthal alignment of the ZIRCONIA lenses
  • Stable
  • Comparatively low cost

UNIFOC 25

The UNIFOC 25 was developed in the 80s to use standard photo enlarging lenses, which do not have their own focusing mechanism, also for photo or industrial cameras. The enlarging lenses are no longer available, but the current PYRITE lenses can also be used with the two UNIFOC 25 via adapters and extension tubes.

Advantages:

  • Large focus stroke of 25mm, resulting in high flexibility in application
  • Large diameter, thus no vignetting even with large sensors
  • No tools required to mount the lens and to fix the setting
  • The helical mount simplifies focusing when frequent focus changes are required
