FAQs about Machine Vision Lenses

What are the key benefits of using Schneider-Kreuznach lenses in machine vision?

Schneider-Kreuznach lenses are engineered to maximize the performance of modern high-resolution industrial cameras. Key benefits include broadband anti-reflection coatings (400-1000 nm) for high light transmission, exceptional edge-to-edge sharpness, and ultra-low distortion essential for precise measurement tasks. Our lenses are designed to resolve the small pixel sizes (down to 2.4µm) of current CMOS sensors, ensuring clear, high-contrast images in AOI, robotics, and traffic monitoring applications.

Can these lenses be customized for specific machine vision tasks?

Yes, customization is a core strength of Schneider-Kreuznach. Beyond our extensive standard portfolio, we offer OEM modifications tailored to your specific system requirements. This includes adapting the mechanical housing for space-constrained environments, optimizing coatings for specific spectral ranges (e.g., UV or SWIR), or implementing fixed aperture stops. We work closely with system integrators to create the perfect optical solution.

Are Schneider-Kreuznach lenses compatible with various sensor sizes?

Our portfolio covers the entire spectrum of industrial sensors. We offer compact C-Mount and TFL-Mount lenses for standard area  sensors (from 1/1.8" up to 1.3"), as well as Large Format lenses with image circles up to 100mm. This makes our optics fully compatible with high-resolution line scan cameras (12k to 16k) and large area scan sensors used in FPD inspection and aerial imaging.

How do compact lenses handle industrial environments?

Our lenses are built for harsh industrial environments. Unlike standard photography equipment, our compact industrial lenses feature robust metal housings and reliable locking screws for both focus and aperture rings. This design ensures that settings remain stable and do not drift due to machine vibrations, temperature fluctuations, or handling, significantly reducing maintenance downtime.

What is the difference between a standard and a ruggedized machine vision lens?

While standard lenses offer locking mechanisms, our Ruggedized lenses are mechanically reinforced for extreme conditions. In these versions, all internal optical elements are securely glued to the housing structure. This prevents "pixel shift" or optical misalignment caused by high G-forces, rapid acceleration (e.g., on robot arms), or continuous strong vibrations, ensuring consistent measurement accuracy over the lens's lifetime.
