Testing & Metrology

At Schneider-Kreuznach, quality is validated through objective, data-driven measurement. Our comprehensive in-house metrology lab serves as the final arbiter of quality, providing the empirical data that confirms every component and system meets its specified performance.

We deploy a suite of advanced metrology equipment to inspect both mechanical and optical characteristics. This ensures that a lens system not only produces a high-quality image but is also dimensionally correct and robustly built. Every system we ship can be accompanied by a comprehensive data package, providing our clients with documented proof of its performance and quality.

Before any product is approved, it undergoes rigorous testing by our experts. Here, a technician conducts a final inspection, combining a trained eye with advanced metrology to ensure every detail aligns with our stringent quality standards.

Our Metrology Capabilities Include

In precision manufacturing, quality is not a subjective assessment; it is a quantifiable certainty. This certainty is achieved through a rigorous and comprehensive metrology framework that validates both the individual components and the final assembled system. At Schneider-Kreuznach, our quality assurance process relies on two parallel streams of metrology: the precise characterization of mechanical components and the functional testing of the final optical system. This dual approach ensures not only that each individual part adheres to its design tolerances, but also that the assembled system performs to its specified optical standard. Our investment in state-of-the-art measurement technology provides the objective data necessary to validate every aspect of our production, from raw material to finished product.

Mechanical & Dimensional Metrology

We verify our mechanical components using high-precision tactile 3D Coordinate Measuring Machines (Zeiss UMM, Duramax, Contura). For verifying rotational symmetries and surface finishes, we utilize advanced form and roughness testers (Mahr MMQ).

Interferometry

Used to measure the transmitted wavefront error of a complete lens system and the surface form of individual optical components to ensure they meet nano-scale tolerances.

MTF Analysis

We perform Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) testing to objectively quantify the resolution and contrast performance of a lens across its entire image field.

Spectrophotometry

Used to verify that optical coatings meet their specified transmission and reflection performance across the required spectral range.
