Surface Technology

This capability is critical for ensuring that our optomechanical systems perform reliably in diverse and often challenging industrial environments. From creating a perfectly non-reflective interior surface to ensuring long-term material stability, our surface technologies are an integral part of our quality promise.

A component's surface is not merely a boundary; it is a functional element that dictates durability, stray light control, and corrosion resistance. At Schneider-Kreuznach, we operate an in-house surface technology department to apply a range of functional coatings and treatments, giving us complete control over the final performance and longevity of our mechanical components.

Precision-machined components await our advanced electroplating process. This crucial step in surface finishing is where durability meets optical excellence, ensuring every piece meets the highest standards of quality and longevity.

Our In-House Surface Capabilities

The surfaces of both optical and mechanical components are functional elements that directly influence system performance, durability, and reliability. Our in-house capabilities allow us to apply a wide range of specialized treatments, from nanometer-scale optical thin films that manage light to robust mechanical finishes that ensure environmental stability. By controlling these critical processes, we can engineer every surface for its specific function, whether it is to maximize light transmission, minimize stray light, or provide long-term protection against corrosion and wear.

Anodizing

We perform in-house anodizing (black, natural, and colors) for aluminum components in baths up to 350mm in diameter. Black anodizing is our standard for optical housings to minimize stray light and provide a durable, corrosion-resistant finish.

Surface Preparation and Texturing

We utilize mechanical surface treatments, including precision sandblasting, glass-bead blasting, and tumble grinding. These processes are used to create specific matte surface textures for light absorption, to prepare surfaces for painting, or for deburring and finishing parts.

Chemical & Galvanic Finishing

Our capabilities include chemical treatments such as blackening steel (Brünieren) and pickling brass, as well as galvanic plating with nickel for wear resistance and zinc for corrosion protection.

Functional Painting & Laser Marking

We apply specialized industrial lacquers using automated and manual spray processes. For permanent identification, we use laser marking systems (Baublys, Acsys) for serial numbers, logos, and scales on both flat and circumferential surfaces.
