Schneider-Kreuznach contributes to bee protection
Bees are among the most important insects in the world. Without them, there would be no pollination and therefore less food. Around 80% of fruit and vegetable varieties are directly dependent on bees.
Optics specialist Schneider-Kreuznach wants to actively support bee colonies and has therefore initiated and launched its own bee project within the company. Schneider-Kreuznach has purchased beehives, equipment and additional food for the bees and approached interested employees.
Electrician Benjamin König and former apprentice Lukas Becker, who joined Schneider-Kreuznach as a cutting machine operator in January 2018, are both hobby beekeepers. They have each donated a colony of bees, which have been housed in two beehives on the company's premises since the beginning of May. In summer, there should be around 50,000 to 80,000 bees per colony. “Together, we want to make a meaningful contribution to the preservation of nature and at the same time form a building block for fruit and vegetable cultivation in the region,” says Dr. Thomas Kessler, Managing Director of the Schneider Group. In good years, up to 45 kilograms of honey can be produced per colony. Employees of the company will then be able to receive it at a special price.
