Schneider-Kreuznach donates photography prize
“The sharp vision”

As part of “Flashback 2017”, photographer Wolfgang Rattay received a prize of 3,000 euros, donated by optics specialist Schneider-Kreuznach, as the winner in the “Sharp Vision 2017” category.

The award ceremony took place on January 29 in Berlin. A total of 1,533 photos and caricatures were submitted. Rattay took the photo for the Reuters news service in November. “As the longest-serving sponsor of the competition, we are delighted to be able to honor very well-executed quality photography,” said Hanns Karl Gaul, authorized signatory of the Schneider Group, who presented the award. Schneider-Kreuznach has been supporting the competition since 1991.

For 34 years, the “Rückblende” has been an annual prize awarded by the Rhineland-Palatinate State Representation and the Federal Association of German Newspaper Publishers for political photography and caricature in cooperation with the Federal Press Conference. It is the highest-awarded competition in this field and thus a piece of contemporary German history. The photos and caricatures from the 2017 flashback will be exhibited this year in Berlin, Bonn, Mainz, Koblenz, Neustadt an der Weinstraße, Leipzig and Trier.
