Schneider-Kreuznach exhibits photographic art by Peter Lebeda: “Deep sea - deceptive beauty”
Jos. Schneider Optische Werke GmbH presents its ninth photo art exhibition every Sunday from January 27 to March 3 from 11 am to 5 pm.
“Deep Sea - Deceptive Beauty” is a project by photo artist Peter Lebeda.
The photographic purist works exclusively with the classic means of camera and light, which requires care and time. There is no subsequent, heavily altered digital image processing. Lebeda stages his objects in a clear and reduced manner; his use of light and its effects creates a power all of its own.
With “Deep Sea - Deceptive Beauty”, he uses an artistic approach to address the thoughtless consumption of plastic as packaging material, which is responsible for the increasing littering of the oceans. According to estimates, 80 million tons of plastic waste have accumulated on the seabed alone. Photographed with polarized light, individual plastic packages suddenly become mysterious deep-sea creatures that seem to float in the eternal darkness, captured by a cone of light. They seem almost beautiful, but it is a deceptive beauty and an almost apocalyptic image. Lebeda's aim is to draw attention to the subject, but to present it in an artistic rather than documentary way. “We are delighted to be exhibiting Peter Lebeda, a photographic artist who raises awareness of a highly topical subject in an impressive aesthetic way,” says Dr. Thomas Kessler, Managing Director of the Schneider Group.
Peter Lebeda was born in Lohr am Main in 1966. He studied photo design, worked in various photo studios, was employed in the optics industry and has been working as a freelance photo artist since 2012. In 2016/17, he held a teaching position at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
The exhibition will take place in the SK Gallery of Jos. Schneider Optische Werke, Ringstraße 132, in Bad Kreuznach. The entrance is via Dürerstraße. Admission is free.
